And it’s only $6.99. – by Laura Barry
Aldi is one of those shops that has a cult following. Their cheap and cheerful wines and spirits are known for winning awards on the international stage, their crazy special sale days accrue hectic lines of people, and their ingenious advent calendar ideas are endless.

So, what’s next? Winning gold at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, that’s what.

Aldi’s $6.99 bottle of One Road South Australia and Heathcote Shiraz (2017) has just been awarded a trophy for Best Medium Bodied Dry Red Wine at the Sydney International Wine Competition, and for the second year in a row, the wine has also won gold at the Great Australian Wine Challenge – beating other bottle of wine with a retail price of $150 or more.

"I've said it before and I'll say it again that a wine should be judged at the table; not by its grape; not by its age; and not by the name on the label." Anon

      OUR JUDGES

For every Award winning wine, we publish each Panel Judge's independent opinion of that wine, on that wine's own page of our web site. There is no such thing as a single universal opinion on any wine. But yours is always the most important one.

      2,000 ENTRIES LIMIT

That's to ensure our International Panel of Judges, collectively, have adequate time to properly and fully judge and select the ultimate Award winners, via a three-phase blind judging system. In the third phase, finalists in food-friendly style Categories, are judged beside food dishes of similar palate weight.
